The Greatness that Comes from Suffering

Words describing who God is on a white background.

It seems odd to say that there is greatness that comes from suffering, but there is. Greatness can manifest itself through our personal sufferings and can lead to the glorification of God, which is a main purpose behind our creation.

  1. Personal lives: Because of my epilepsy I have a closer walk with the Lord. I rely on Him every day, leading me to have a more intimate relationship with Him. I want to study His Word more to strengthen my relationship with Him which also leads me to better understand what His Word means for us, slowly making me more like Christ. God tells us our body is His Holy Temple, the residence of the Holy Spirit. I look back at all the things He has done for me, and it amazes me how present He has been throughout my life.

Try taking time to think of the good things that have come from your suffering. What are the positive things your epilepsy has led you to do? Did you meet someone important to you because of your sufferings? Did your suffering remove you from a situation and place you in a better one? If you can’t figure out anything positive, go back to my previous blog. I talked about how the Lord is always by my side. That blog might help you realize that the suffering from your epilepsy really has led you to good things, even though it took time to see the positive outcomes. It’s something that might surprise you.

If you still can’t find something positive, it may be because you haven’t made it to the positive part yet, or you may want to ask yourself if you have a good relationship with Christ. Are you seeking Him with all your heart? If not, then I would be glad to discuss how you can make the Lord a more prominent part of your life.

2. How God is glorified through our suffering: Relying on Him. God is glorified when I rely on Him. He’s glorified because He is my strength. He’s glorified when I give him the credit for all He’s done throughout my life. He is glorified when I have a positive attitude no matter what is going on in my life. My life should always reflect Him. No matter what life throws at me, if I hold to my faith in the Lord, His love and faithfulness will shine for others to see.

Think about ways God is glorified in your epilepsy. How do you live a life with epilepsy? You can’t do it on your own. You probably have friends and family that help you, friends and family that God placed into your life. Keep in mind that God will always be there for you when you actively seek Him with your whole heart. He will give you strength to deal with whatever struggles present themselves in your life.

Jeremiah 29:13: “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart”.

Psalm 86:12: I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.

Romans 8:18: “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us”.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on finding the good that can come from the bad. It is sometimes very, very difficult to find the positive in the middle of painful and stressful situations. I do believe that it is possible to find at least bits of good even when we face sad and challenging times. Why bad things have to happen, I do not know, but I do believe we can learn from the bad and find at least bits of happiness in all parts of our lives. Mary
