Self-Esteem: Finding Strength in Your Journey
Having epilepsy can cause low self-esteem because of the way it affects your life. There are activities and food we should avoid, we might have seizures in front of other people, and sometimes we must completely rely on other people.
I know for me, I’m continuously having to rely on others, I get worried about having seizures in front of other people, and sometimes I become embarrassed when I can’t do things that others can.
When you start getting self-conscious about these or other things, remind yourself that you didn’t choose epilepsy. Instead of worrying about those things, focus on taking care of yourself. Is doing something you should avoid worth it? Or is not doing something that may help you because of your self-esteem the best way to improve yourself or your life? There’s no need to be ashamed or embarrassed by the things that make you different because of your epilepsy. It’s about keeping yourself safe and healthy, not causing more seizures just to fit in or feel “normal”.
It’s ok if you have seizures in front of other people, especially if those people are your friends or family and know what to do when you have a seizure. However, if you are around people that don’t know you have epilepsy, just let them know you have it and what to do if you have a seizure. It can make you and those around you more comfortable when you feel supported and they know how to react.
People with epilepsy might not be very independent. We rely on others for transportation, for assistance when we have an episode, and patience from others in the workplace. Try to keep good relationships with friends and family who are kind, supportive, and helpful. Of course, also try to return the favor any chance you get. Even if you can’t give rides to them or something similar, you will be surprised how much everyone needs some kind of help even if it’s with day-to-day activities.
The most important relationship is your relationship with the Lord. He will give you the most love, guidance, and support. Reading and studying your Bible daily can help keep your relationship with Him strong and keep Him at the forefront of your thoughts.
Keep in mind, the Lord is always with you and will always support you. Psalm 16:8

Very well said !!!!
I know every day comes with challenges and stress. It can be overwhelming.
Stay strong. Step at a time. Day at a time. Sometimes we have to live a minute at a time! Mary
